Mary

Welcome to Mary’s story. To get here, you must have played my Interactive Fiction game, River Hill: A Ghost Story, Part 4 and gotten to the ending where Mary is the ghost. Most who tell her story or one of the many version of it that are passed around in local lore, do not know her full name or her full story. If you haven’t followed the story of River Hill: A Ghost Story, you may want to go back to the beginning or catch up on a part that you haven’t read (or played). The link above is where I describe the project and link to Parts 1-4.

What follows is the author’s version of Mary’s story, though it may be no less authoritative than yours or anyone else’s. If you’ve reached this page from my Interactive Fiction, then you’ve met Mary, so maybe she told you her story herself. Ultimately, one’s story is only their own as long as there are those who can tell it. Even if it is written down as history or narrative, every story is subject to multiple retellings, interpretations, bowdlerizations, even outright fabrications, all of which may be better than being forgotten. This is where I’m going to add my version of Mary’s story, but I haven’t finished that yet. For now, I”m creating the page where you will land.
